July 28th Storms - Central,IL

Go here to view pics - http://www.illinoisfury.net/thunderstorms.html

With a slow moving cold front on the approach, Central Illinois was under the famous "See Text" setup. First cell popped along the I-72 corridor in Macon County before tracking slowly northeast. I positioned on its southern edge near Argenta, and noticed right above me was a weak broad circulation, with another weak concentrated circulation in the middle. Im assuming this would be the meso portion if there was one.

Later in the day an outflow boundary lifted north through Eastern Macon and Piatt Counties. A Shelf cloud was on the eastern part of the boundary while a Roll Cloud feature was back to the West. Which was another first for me this year....

This looked like the spot where the Roll Cloud & Shelf were joined. Notice the little Wall Cloud trying to form in the background, and possibly a small Funnel to the left of it.

The Roll Cloud feature back west didnt have the traditional rolling motion as it passed by. Its still considered an Arcus Roll Cloud since its detached from the actual storm base.
Wicked Outflow behind the Roll Cloud....

Nicely done Cameron, very good photos! This was definitely one of my best chases this year! The first cell I hit had a massive rotating wall cloud between Mt. Aurburn and Springfield. Then I hit I-72 and got off on the Lincoln, Warrensburg exit and headed East of Warrensburg where I saw some interesting action. I was somewhere off of Lake Fork Rd between Warrensburg and Argenta, probably not to far from where you were when I picked up on some slight rotation myself. I saw plenty of rotation, and what must have been a shelf leading this cell. Saw lots of scud funnels and lowerings too. You were probably getting hit with hell of rain and hail at that point! I also captured some great lightning! Great job today!! Absolutely love the pics you took of the roll cloud, especially the last photo! It was something I have never seen before, a shelf and a roll cloud all in one storm!!

Great shots man. Love the post-outflow turbulence.
